Mulholland Books is a new imprint of Little, Brown and Company. It’s focus is on publishing the best in suspense fiction. Here’s what they have to say on their website:

Mulholland Drive is a winding stretch of road that follows the ridgeline of the Hollywood Hills. Its hairpin turns, sharp cliff-faces and breathtaking views of Los Angeles are shrouded in secrecy and imbued with drama, making them synonymous with suspense. The mysteries of Mulholland have inspired countless novels, films and works of art, from the classic mysteries of Raymond Chandler and James M. Cain to the voices of James Ellroy, Michael Connelly, Michael Mann, David Lynch and David Hockney.

The goal of Little, Brown’s Mulholland Books is simple: to publish books you can’t stop reading. Whatever their form—crime novels, thrillers, police procedurals, spy stories, even supernatural suspense—the promise of a Mulholland Book is that you’ll read it leaning forward, hungry for the next word. With a focus on online community building, internet marketing and authentic connections between authors, readers and publisher, Mulholland Books will be at the center of a web of suspense.

The history of suspense is long and storied, and Mulholland Books is proud to be part of its future. Unexpected, fresh, and with a 21st century approach to publishing, meet Mulholland: you never know what’s coming around the curve.

The first Mulholland books will not be published until April of 2011, but they are providing lucky Book Bloggers with an opportunity to read galleys of what’s to come! Here is the prize Mulholland Books is offering the BBAW today:

A Mulholland Tote bag with a galley of Guilt By Association by Marcia Clark and A Drop Of The Hard Stuff by Lawrence Block. But that’s not all! Three runners up will each receive galley of Guilt By Association by Marcia Clark and A Drop Of The Hard Stuff by Lawrence Block as well!

Because these books won’t officially be published until April or May of next year, I don’t have images of the covers, but here are descriptions from Mulholland Books’ website:

GUILT BY ASSOCIATION by Marcia Clark

A gripping debut legal thriller by the world-renowned former L.A. prosecutor.

Los Angeles D.A. Rachel Knight is a tenacious, wise-cracking, and fiercely intelligent prosecutor in the city’s most elite and tightly knit division. When her colleague, Jake, is found dead at a grisly crime scene, Rachel is shaken to the core. Grieving, she must take on his toughest case and redeem his reputation while trying to find out why and by whom he was killed.

With her expertise in the L.A. courts and the vibrant voice of her heroine, Rachel Knight, Marcia Clark combines intimate detail, riotous humor, and visceral action in a debut thriller that marks the beginning of an exciting career.

Marcia Clark is a former LA, California deputy district attorney, who was the lead prosecutor in the O.J. Simpson murder case. She wrote a bestselling nonfiction book about the trial, Without a Doubt, and is a frequent media commentator and columnist on legal issues. She lives in Los Angeles.

A DROP OF THE HARD STUFF by Lawrence Block

Grandmaster Lawrence Block brings his greatest character, Matthew Scudder, back into action in his most personal case to date.

Matthew Scudder is finally on the straight and narrow when he runs into “High-Low” Jack Ellery, a childhood friend from the Bronx. In Scudder, Jack sees the moral man he might have become. In Jack, Scudder sees the hard-won sobriety he hopes to achieve. Then Ellery, following to the letter the dictates of Alcoholics Anonymous’ infamous twelve steps, is shot down while attempting to atone for past sins, and Scudder is drawn into a murder investigation that threatens to upset his path toward recovery—and get him killed in the process.

Exploring themes of loss, nostalgia, and redemption, for Lawrence Block A DROP OF THE HARD STUFF circles back to how it all began, reestablishing why the Matthew Scudder series is widely regarded as one of the pinnacles of American detective fiction.

Lawrence Block is a Grand Master of the Mystery Writers of America, has won multiple Edgar and Shamus awards and countless international prizes. The author of more than 50 books, he lives in New York City. Learn more at http://www.lawrenceblock.com
